Stargazer

60cm x 120cm x 18cm
acrylic, plaster and graphite on MDF

The works in this series contain 2 parts.
The slanted narrow part is treated with plaster, graphite and shellac. I consider the rich textured surface representative of the past.
The larger section has a smooth surface riddled with several circular perforations with gently sloping edges, which communicates a mobile fluidity.  I think of this as the current state of this increasingly fragile civilization, but simultaneously as the general progression of time towards the unknown future. They draw the gaze deep into the work in similar fashion as a perspective in figurative paintings, however more intriguing due to the play of light and shadow.

All these works have edges cut at 45º inward angles.
